Avira Freeware Surpasses 1 million Users in Japan

The Japanese subsidiary company of the German IT security Avira GmbH, Avira K.K., has avira_logo_red_rgb announced that it has passed the one million mark for Japanese users of its free software Avira AntiVir. The Japanese subsidiary company was founded in 2009 and introduced Japanese language versions of its security software products in December, 2009. Avira in Japan uses the freemium approach, offering entry-level products free of charge, and charging a premium for more advanced versions.

Travis Witteveen, Director of Sales & Marketing at Avira GmbH comments: "Avira's success in the daily battle against malware is reflected by our rapid growth – today we are adding new Avira users at the rate of one per second. Hitting the one million mark in Japan so quickly validates our decision to focus on the Japanese market and we will continue to cater our solutions and services on our users' needs."

As a gesture of appreciation to its growing customer base in Japan, Avira is launching a special promotional campaign to celebrate breaking through the one million user mark. During the one million second-long campaign (12 days), Avira is offering a 25 percent discount on the regular purchase price for the Japanese versions of Avira AntiVir Premium and Avira Premium Security Suite. The campaign runs from midnight on April 14, 2010, closing at midnight on April 25 (Japan time).

As proven by tests conducted by various independent testing organizations, including AV Comparatives, Avira products are known for their high performance and quality.
