Adware and Spyware - What You Need to Know

By Ray Decuecy

Spyware and adware are two very dangerous things. If you are using the internet then you need to understand what both of these things are. You also should be aware of how you can use spyware blockers to help ensure your safety and keep you free of both spyware and adware.

Definitions

Spyware and adware are not the same things. Spyware is a program that is somehow installed on your computer, usually without your knowledge. Once there the program will spy on you and watch your activities. Spyware may be able to see files on your computer and to log passwords or other personal information that you are typing. It can monitor your keystrokes to read what
you type, it can take shots of the screen to know where you have been and what you have been doing and it can watch your browser history and track every move you make when you are using your computer.

In some cases, a spyware program can actually control or take over your computer. It can make you go to certain sites despite what you type into your browser. It can hack into your email and
send SPAM. It can use your computer to attack other computers and you won't even be aware it is happening.

Adware is similar to spyware, so most spyware blockers will also handle it. This type of program is not as vicious as spyware. Instead of stealing information, this type of program just redirects you to websites. The main idea and use is marketing, not stealing your information or invading your computer.

Facts on These Programs

There are many facts that you should know about spyware and related programs. When it comes to this type of computer program it is helpful to know as much as possible. This will allow you to better protect yourself with tools, like spyware blockers.

Some alarming facts that you should be aware of are that about 80% of computers are not well protected against such attacks and about 60% of computers are already infected. Most people will get these programs from downloads or opening email attachments. However, you can get a malicious program simply by just using the internet. That is why spyware blockers are so important. It protects you when you are unaware that an attack may be happening.

You can usually tell when you have something installed on your computer that you didn't put there. Adware is quite easy to spot since it will cause pop ups and redirect you to websites that are trying to sell a product or service. Spyware, on the other hand, can be very deceptive. You may notice your computer running slower or notice programs running that you didn't start up. These are classic signs of spyware.

You have to protect yourself. Using a computer comes with risks. Do not let your computer go unprotected. You are best off with good spyware blockers that will keep these malicious programs off your computer and keep you safe.
