Benefits of Integrating SharePoint With Key Microsoft Programs

SharePoint is a Microsoft technology that permits enterprise to host intranet based web pages. It also enables the sharing of MS Office documents between users on the intranet. There are many innovative and creative uses for SharePoint when integrated with key Microsoft programs.

Integrated SharePoint and Outlook

If you are using SharePoint, you probably have been realizing the many benefits of using the SharePoint Calendar. A SharePoint calendar view is list information that is presented within the look and feel of a Calendar. When integrating SharePoint Calendar and Outlook, you will have such abilities as: take SharePoint content offline such as tasks, contacts, calendars, and document libraries. You will be able to overlay SharePoint calendars with other calendars and edit the calendar in Outlook. You have the ability to send an HTML email version of a SharePoint calendar. You can also send InfoPath electronic forms through Outlook as an email. Tasks from SharePoint, OneNote, and Project Server can be consolidated within Outlook. There is also the ability to approve workflows/tasks directly from Outlook and you do not have to open SharePoint. All SharePoint content is available via RSS feeds and Outlook has an RSS reader. From SharePoint you can e-mail a link directly to a document or file.

Enterprise Content Management gives users such abilities as: complete meta-data in the Information Property Panel and create custom Information Property Panels with business logic using InfoPath.  When opening a Word document from SharePoint you can see the following: a document that needs workflow actions, a document that is locked and needs check out to be modified, and you can see pertinent corporate policies directly in Office. You can write and publish web content that provides such abilities as: see all previous published and draft versions, restore any previous version, and perform a graphical comparison between any two versions. As well, you have the ability to create a new blog posting or Wiki in SharePoint directly from Word Integrated SharePoint and Excel

You can publish spreadsheets to Excel Services that includes web-based spreadsheet access and web-services interface to the spreadsheets. Enterprise Content Management abilities include complete meta-data in the Information Property Panel. You can also create custom Information Property Panels with business logic using InfoPath. As well In-client work-flows allows you to see: a document that needs workflow actions, a document that is locked and needs check out to be modified, see relevant corporate policies directly in Office.

There are many benefits to integrating SharePoint with key Microsoft programs. The capabilities of SharePoint helps companies quickly respond to changing business needs. SharePoint is an essential tool for both businesses and individuals.
