A group of fourty form four students from Chirunga Community Day Secondary School in Zomba on June 17, 2009 went to The Department of Geological Survey of Malawi on an educational visit. The trip which was led by their geography teacher, was a fruitful event in the sense that students were briefed on what happens in Seismology.
The group had a two hour briefing according to their schedule. Winstone Kapanje, a Seismologist and three other members Patrick Chidandali, Duncan Gondwe and Patricia Kapolo had the time to explain to the students about earthquakes and the key areas of interest from students.
The lesson also included the background history of Seismological observation in Malawi with two portacorders at Chileka and Mzuzu airport before migrating to digital dataloggers in 1989.
From Geological Survey Department the students continued with their scheduled visit to The University of Malawi- Chancellor College's Geography Department.
